The Pittsburgh Penguins Owe Sidney Crosby A Trade To A Team That Doesn't Suck Ass

Last night had to be one of the lowest moments in Pittsburgh Penguins history, and this is a franchise that filed for bankruptcy multiple times. It was 3-0 Dallas Stars before most fans in Pittsburgh were even able to get in their seats. It was 6-0 by the time that most fans should have just left the building in the 1st period.

They ended up losing 7-1, but that's after the Stars already put the game in cruise control.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are truly an awful hockey team right now. They're in 7th place in the division, and 15th in the conference if we're going based on point percentages. It's still early in the year and we're not quite a quarter of the way through yet, but this Penguins team is destined to be dog shit all year. It'll be the 3rd year in a row where they miss the playoffs, and it'll be 7 years since they've won a playoff series.

Sidney Crosby doesn't deserve to go out like this. Kyle Dubas has proven before he has no idea how to construct a championship roster. And even if he did, there's no way the Penguins are going to be able to build one around Crosby now. You'd have to swap out pretty much the entire roster around him.

It seems like it would be just way easier to let Sid go. He's done so much for the city of Pittsburgh and the game of hockey. 3 Stanley Cups, all the individual awards and accolades, the Olympic gold medals, living up to the hype every step of the way. He's a top 5 player to ever step on a sheet of ice, and he doesn't deserve to go down with this ship.

The only issue, however, is that Sidney Crosby is the ultimate hockey guy. He's never going to ask for a trade because he has way too much respect and honor. It's the same reason why he's never asked for a raise in his contract. He's wildly too superstitious, and he also knows that taking less money has always made it easier for management to build around him. He's as selfless as they come in the game, and he's willing to go down with the ship. But that doesn't mean he should have to.

The Penguins are god awful. There's no hope for them being competitive any time soon. Just do the right thing and trade him to a contender so he can get one or two more runs at the Cup in his career. And if it turns out that Gabe Landeskog unfortunately isn't able to get back to playing in Colorado? Well there's your perfect excuse to make a trade to the Avs happen. Do the right thing, Kyle. Set Sid free.
