Dave Portnoy Says He Will Pay Up To $3 Million In NIL To Get Michigan An Elite Quarterback Each Year

Look if you clicked on this blog thinking I was going to try and tear down the King* on this one you've got the wrong article. I don't scratch my head unless it itches, and I don't dance unless I hear music. I call it as I see it every single time, and this time, I'm saying it's the smartest thing Dave Portnoy has ever done. The fact of the matter is that College Football has turned into the Wild Wild West, where you no longer have to recruit and develop your own players to win. Instead, you have to find as much money as you can to convince 18-22 year olds to come to your campus, and then if they play well, you have to find even more money to keep them. Meanwhile, you also have to deliver on playing time and touches, or else they'll quit in the middle of the season and go somewhere else.

And it used to be that you had to secretly deliver someone a bag of cash. Now you just have to have them make 1 commercial for the local car dealership and you can legally give them....millions. And that's exactly what Dave said he's going to do: bring in a Top 10 QB every year for between $1-3 million and make sure that the problem they have this year (good defense, no QB) never happens again.

Here's what On3 says a top QB costs in College Football this year:

- Shedeur Sanders ($5.1 million) - could you imagine Dave bringing in his pal Deion's son?

- Archie Manning ($3.1 million)

- Quinn Ewers ($2.2 million)

- Nico Iamaleava ($1.9 million)

- Cam Ward ($1.9 million)

Those are CRAZY numbers, but Dave is willing to pay them and he has the money to do so. And I'll admit it, add those guys to Michigans roster each year and they might actually beat us every once in a while. So yeah, this is a sad day for Ohio State. Don't get me wrong, we were onto this plan well before Michigan* which is why we have the best roster in College Football this year and why we're nearly 3 touchdown favorites in The Game because our rivals quite literally cannot throw a forward pass. But Dave does have the ability to use his fuck you money, and his platform on the internet, at Barstool, and in society in general to get a good player to commit to Michigan. I have nothing negative to say today. All I can do at this point is warn the Boss about what the great Nick Saban once told me:

Remember that DJ U got a bag to go to Florida State. Wouldn't that be something? I do think it's cool that Dave is willing to buy a top QB for his school, but could you imagine if the kid ends up stinking? Think if Dave was the reason DJ U went to Florida State and then they started 0-3. Might be worth the $3 million in content alone.
