Watch The San Diego Padres Execute A Flawless WALK OFF TRIPLE PLAY To Beat The Dodgers And Clinch The Playoffs

I don't want to be too dramatic because that's pretty lame and the Padres we're a lock to make October anyways. But even so that's just a remarkable way to end a baseball game, much less one that guarantees the club a playoff spot. So congratulations to the Padres on that happening.

More important - is it more unlikely a baseball game end on a triple play, or an NFL game ends in a walk-off safety? I think both occurrences register on the same side of the NO FUCKING WAY spectrum. To what exact subdegree of rarity - I don't know and can't say for sure. That's why I just asked for your opinion on the matter.

Both of them sound impossible. The only reason I'd say the safety is more rare is because I am literally talking about the other event occurring right now. That's some fuckin backwards logic for me to say the triple-play is more rare when I am, in fact, talking about walk-off triple play from last night.

Two points for a safety

And at this point, a lot of people expect me to shit on Miguel Rojas for hitting into a textbook 5-4-3 triple play but I'm not going to do that. Miguel Rojas doesn't deserve that kind of attention after playing his best baseball since COVID. He's been arguably as valuable as Dansby Swanson in about half the playing time. I'm not salty about that as much as I'm just pointing out that nobody should be talking shit to Miguel Rojas for leaving Ohtani on deck in last night's situation. Doing so would be kinda stupid.

But alas, guys don't get ripped on for hitting into triple plays as much as they do double plays. Paul Konerko is a good example. That guy posted emerging 3rd-world GDP numbers for over a decade. Great hitter, sure. But he couldn't get out of the batters box to save his fucking life and everybody knew it.

Grounding into a triple play was just part of the game back then. Now, it sends the Padres to the playoffs and I can honestly say I have never seen that happen before on a baseball field.

Other remarkable things:

- Ohtani 50/50

- The Dodgers hitting Ohtani/Mookie/Freddie

- How good Freddie Freeman is at hitting inside fastballs without giving up the outer half of the plate

- The Dodgers home uniforms under the lights are in a dogfight with Yankee pinstripes. I mean a real fuckin dogfight guys

- The Oakland Athletics should not leave Oakland. Maybe worth another blog but wanted to share this nonetheless

- End of the baseball season is the best time of the year. I just don't know if that's because I like the playoffs or I'm conditioned to needing a break from watching substandard play. Whatever the case, I'm in a good mood and would welcome you to join me on the matter.

PS Random Thought - Jose Ramirez is probably a hall of famer - just not sure how many years he needs. My gut instinct says he's on pace for being a 1st ballot guy, but that's really hard to tell at this point. Look for yourself and make your own judgments
