Josh Heupel's Postgame Speech After Winning in His Return to Oklahoma Will Have You Ready To Suit Up for the Vols
Damn, this is awesome. I love this guy so much.
Josh Heupel went back to Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday night for the first time as a visitor, having previously patrolled the home sideline as a national championship-winning quarterback and assistant coach before he was fired by Bob Stoops in 2014. He tried to downplay the storyline all week, but clearly winning this game meant more to him than even a big SEC road win over a Top 15 team would otherwise.
It's one thing to be a really good football team — and that's ultimately the goal no matter what it takes. But when you're a really good football team and have a culture where guys like Nico Iamaleava give Heupel the game ball as he says, "We did that shit for you," that's special stuff.
I only wish Heupel hadn't lost both of his starting offensive tackles so he wasn't forced to hand the ball up the middle every play in the second half and could have gotten a couple fuck you touchdowns in against his alma mater. But we will take a 10-point road win over a ranked team 11 times out of 10.
What a coach and what a team.
