Credit To The 49ers On Not Giving Jordan Mason An Ounce Of Media Training Before The CMC Shitstorm They Caused

Jordan Mason had the best night of his career. 28 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown while leading the Niners to a 32-19 week 1 win over the Jets. But if there are 8 billion people in the world, I'd say all but 70ish of them thought that Christian McCaffrey would have been the one getting all those touches last night. Pretty much everybody in the entire world outside of the 53 players on the 49ers and the coaching staff, because apparently they knew that Jordan Mason would be the starter since Friday night.

Now obviously there are going to be a ton of people out there who are pissed off at the 49ers for waiting until the last minute to rule McCaffrey out of the game when they clearly knew he wouldn't be playing on Friday. There's a ton of money on the line there with gambling and fantasy implications. I'm not a huge sports better, and I don't have CMC on my fantasy team. So personally, I don't give a shit about waiting until a few minutes before kickoff to break the news.

Where I do think the 49ers are dumbasses, however, is that clearly there wasn't a single person in that organization who thought that maybe they'd want to give Jordan Mason just a few minutes of media training over the weekend after he found out he'd be starting. Because clearly that answer on the field got him in a little bit of trouble in the locker room.

One of the most important lessons I've learned in life is that "Be smart about being stupid". It's a lesson that everybody should learn, and clearly one that nobody within the 49ers organization has been taught yet. If you're going to withhold the injury status of one of the biggest superstars in the league until minutes before the game starts, you just need to cover your bases. Primarily by telling the backup running back something along the lines of, "if any media members ask you about when you found out you were starting tonight, just be extremely vague and say you found out when you were told". They had to know the media shitstorm they were going to cause by pulling this move, so not giving the kid any sort of heads up is wild.

All I know is that my Eagles would never just feed one of their players to the wolves like this. Have to wonder and hope if this will cause any irreparable damage in that 49ers locker room between the players and management.
