Linkin Park Posted A Cryptic Countdown Clock To Social Media Which Expires Today And Has Fueled Theories They Are Reuniting For A Tour Or New Music

So, here's the lowdown: Linkin Park's got this countdown timer ticking away on their socials. It's set to end on Wednesday, and the suspense is killing people...almost.

Now, we've been hearing whispers of a reunion since spring, with some even suggesting they're looking for a female vocalist to fill Chester's shoes.

Robbie touched on this back in May.

So, a female vocalist huh? That's a bold move, if Linkin Park is indeed set to go that path. The name kicked around the most is Amy Lee from Evanescence. Who has an all-time voice if we're being totally honest.

A rumor she was quick to shoot down.

Billboard- Earlier this month, Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee shot down rumors that she might be a candidate for the lead vocal gig.

On April 23, the singer told iHeartRadio Canada that, while some Linkin Park fans had been voicing hopes for her to join the band, the group had not contacted her for the gig.

“But that’s awesome,” she said. “They should ask me about that. I don’t have a ton of free time, but I might do it part-time.”

So if not her, and if they really are getting back together, who's this mystery woman gonna be?

Or man?

Rumors also swirled that it was going to be Sum 41's Deryck Whibley because he also has an announcement scheduled for Wednesday, and the internet of course went into meltdown. Some folks speculated that he might be Linkin Park's new frontman.

A claim that he too felt the need to shoot-down immediately.

Is this all just a big old publicity stunt? Or are they gonna pull an Oasis in the same week, and blow our minds with another epic comeback?

Or is this just some marketing gimmick to release new music?

I'm not gonna lie, the idea of a Linkin Park reunion has me feeling nostalgic. I can practically hear "In the End" blasting from my high school stereo.

But I'm also a bit wary. Can they really capture that same magic without Chester? Or will it be like having your girlfriend or wife try to recreate your favorite childhood meal, only to realize it tastes kinda bland and disappointing because it's just not the same as when your mom made it?

Regrettably I never got the chance to see them live back in the day. Believe me I know how bad I missed out.

So even though it wouldn't technically be the same, getting to hear a song like "Faint" live, with 5/6 of the original band members would be better than nothing for me.

The idea of new music even makes me a little giddy.

The introduction of AI has spun music engineering and production on its head now. For example, just last year The Beatles managed to finish and release a really fucking great song, that nobody was previously able to tinker with precisely. And It was all thanks to AI.

So is this another instance where old band demo tracks were stripped layer by layer thanks to artificial intellgience, then claned up, mixed and mastered correctly producing a song we've never heard before?

Only time will tell, my friends. Until then, I'll be sitting here, refreshing their socials like a caffeine-fueled maniac, hoping for the best but prepared for the worst. In the meantime, feel free to share your wildest Linkin Park reunion fantasies in the comments.

p.s. - Speaking of nostalgia, can we talk about Collision Course for a minute? That Linkin Park/Jay-Z mashup album was pure genius. I think MTV were the geniuses behind the whole thing. It was at the height of the "mashup era", where DJ AM and all the rest of us AM wannabe DJ's were remixing and editing various songs into and over each other. Breathing brand new life into old forgotten tracks. But Linkin Park and Jay-Z took it one step further. They got in the studio together, and reimagined some of their biggest hits, and by ever-so-slightly changing the key here, and changing the tempo there, they created a brand new masterpiece, that we were at the same time familiar with.

Jay-Z fans loved it, Linkin Park fans loved it. It was genius.

I mean, who would've thought that "Numb/Encore" would become such an anthem? It was like two worlds colliding, and the result was something truly special.

p.p.s. - the "Jigga What/Faint" mash up went SO FUCKING HARD live. Can't believe how good the band sounded playing that classic beat and how good the violins sounded coming in building up into that guitar crescendo. Mind blowing.
