Chick-Fil-A Is Reportedly Launching A New Streaming Service And I Guarantee It Will End Up Being Awesome
Deadline- Chick-Fil-A is moving aggressively into the entertainment space with plans to launch a slate of originals for its own streaming platform. Deadline understands that the fast-food firm has been working with a number of major production companies, including some of the studios, to create family-friendly shows, particularly in the unscripted space. It is also in talks to license and acquire content.
We hear that this includes a family-friendly gameshow from Glassman Media, the company behind NBC’s The Wall, and Michael Sugar’s Sugar23, which is behind series such as Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. Deadline understands this show has been handed a ten-episode order.
So this story hit my feed earlier today and I admittedly did the confused dog look when I saw it.
Then I thought about it for a minute and I couldn't be more in on a Chick-Fil-A streaming service. I know what you are thinking after taking one look at me and let me say shame on you! I mean you are not wrong. However, while I (clearly) love the food that Chick-Fil-A pumps out of their fryers, I love the idea of a streaming service for so many more reasons than that.
Look, there are certain companies that are good and there are certain companies that stink. That's just a fact of life. I lump Chick-Fil-A squarely in the Good column for a variety of reasons. They have become a monster corporation despite a pretty limited menu. They somehow made the drive thru a manageable experience despite there being an unlimited line of cars pulling into their driveways no matter the location. They created a signature sauce that is flat out elite and better than anything on other fast food chains' entire menus. They opened up fast food restaurants in New York City where every employee is somehow happy, which is something I thought was literally impossible. Hell, they even have such a good disposable cup that they released a reusable tumbler of it, which sold out instantly and has haunted me for days for not buying one as soon as I saw it.
So why can't they figure out how to launch a streaming service? Based on Chick-Fil-A's rep, I admittedly was a little wary of this being some boring religious channel that would make going to CCD seem like a fun time. But reality TV seems like an easy way to get your foot in the door and test the waters of a new industry.
As someone that had to watch God knows how many shitty TV episodes on Disney+ while covering the MCU and Star Wars beat on My Mom's Basement, I can tell you firsthand that even the biggest media companies in the world with the biggest franchises in entertainment can completely fuck up streaming, which I think starts at the top. But if that person at the top actually has a brain, why can't they hire great people to make great TV?
Other than everything I mentioned, the biggest reason I think that the Chick-Fil-A streaming service will become a monster is because they have been friends with benefits with college football long before a Chick-Fil-A was anywhere near my tastebuds in the Northeast. As college football continues to eat itself so it can continue to grow bigger, inevitably they will reach out to streaming services in order to wet their beak despite it drowning it cash.
Sooner or later they will reach out to Chick-Fil-A, who will happily fork over a ton of money to broadcast a slate of games. The NCAA will accept it since they will do anything for a buck (Source: The current state of college football) and the Chick-Fil-A Network will become a Must Have service for millions of college football fans. Give me allllll the Chick-Fil-A Streaming Service stock (along with a spicy chicken sandwich with Chick-Fil-A Sauce).
