Ryan Day Has Named Will Howard THE Starting Quarterback For Ohio State
First of all, let's chill with the "Breaking News". I know that Ohio State has been pretending there's a big ol' Quarterback Competition going on, but let's be honest with ourselves: we didn't bring Will Howard in from Kansas State for him to hold a clipboard. I know we brought in the #1 QB in the entire portal, true freshman Julian Sayin, because Nick Saban left Alabama....and that's after already signing another Top 5 QB in the country in Air Noland....but those two can battle it out in the future. Once we all saw Devin Brown and Lincoln Keinholz play against Missouri in the Bowl Game, the job was for whichever veteran QB that Ryan Day went out and handpicked. That answer is Will Howard, last year's 2nd team All Big 12 quarterback at Kansas State.
Here's 7 minutes and 20 seconds of his highlights:
But listen, I'm going to take off the Scarlet and Gray colored glasses for a moment and give you the honest fucking opinion of what's going on. First of all, the fact of the matter is that the rest of Ohio State's roster is so elite that there's only going to be one person to blame and that's the quarterback. I could be QB1 and the Buckeyes would win 10 games this season, but we need the guy that makes sure we win all 12. No, scratch that. Beating Oregon will making us look good in October....but if we don't beat Michigan, this guys legacy in Columbus will be trash.
With that being said, the good news is that we're the most talented team in the country and with what I've seen from Howard, I have zero doubts that we run the table and win it all.....which is why I placed a bet at +1500 this morning for Will Howard to win the Heisman. Am I wrong for that? Ohio State has two elite running backs and multiple elite receivers. If they're head and shoulders better than every other team like I think they are, they will have someone in New York for the Heisman Trophy Ceremony. And if they beat Oregon, how are you going to choose Dylan Gabriel over Will Howard? I think there's some good value in the guy that will have the best numbers from the best team.
**I will say this though: Will Howard needs to understand the assignment here. He's 14-11 in his career as a starter, and while that doesn't concern me because he hasn't had the team surrounding him like he does now, he needs to realize that ONE loss will make this city burn to the ground. Just remember, Kyle McCord went 11-1 last season and we literally ran him out of town....10-2 and you might go down as the worst Ohio State quarterback in school history. But good luck, Will! We're all cheering for you!! Bring home THE Game and the Natty!!!!
