Table Tennis Needs To Be A Bigger Sport Every Year And Bernadette Szocs Is Going To Lead The Way
Every 4 years the Olympics come around, and every 4 years there are a group of sports that everybody falls in love with again. Table tennis, badminton, handball, maybe to an extent you could throw beach volleyball in there. Maybe you start off watching them as a joke, but you can't get enough of it by the time you're about 10 minutes in. You become so invested during the Olympics, but once the closing ceremonies are over you end up forgetting about them again for another 4 years. I feel like soccer used to be like that in America--we would watch the World Cup, fall in love with soccer for a week or two after the tournament, and then football season would come around and nobody would give a shit about soccer anymore.
But soccer managed to find a way to break through and stick around after awhile. And now it's time for table tennis to do the same thing. And if there's one athlete out there who can help table tennis really become a part of our annual sports calendar here in the US, it's gotta be Bernadette Szocs from Romania.
Elite hand speed. Insane wrists. One of the most impressive athletes on the planet. It just wouldn't make sense that such a sports-crazed nation like the United States would only want to watch that greatness once every 4 years. We have millions of people in this country glued to the TV to watch Daniel Jones play quarterback every Sunday. You'd think at least a few hundred thousand of them wouldn't mind flipping the channel to watch Bernadette Szocs go nuts on the table.
All I'm saying is that I'm sure there's some billionaire out there with a shit ton of money to blow who can start up Major League Table Tennis this fall.
