Dan Lanning Is Begging Teams To Call Oregon "That Team Out West" To Insert The Ducks Into Big Ten Rivalries
Listen I know I'm a couple days late on this one. I bookmarked this tweet to come back to late last week, but then a few far more important college football things popped up on the radar this weekend than the zero time national champion Oregon Ducks trying to beg for relevancy. But here's the thing: I was under the impression that it was just these two undergrads interviewing a former player for a Communications 101 course. "If you're an Ohio State fan, we want you to hate us" is one of the funniest/saddest things I've ever read in my entire life. It's like begging your Dad to pay attention to you when he's already ran off with his new wife on the East Coast, leaving you and your mom in the trailer park in Eugene. Please include us! We know you don't need to or want but it would be great if you could! But again, I thought it was just these two undergrads talking. I did not realize that Oregon Football is producing their own 4-part Hard Knocks style series called "The Team Out West" and that Dan Lanning is included in the begging, too!
Is he really standing in front of his team saying things like "When they come play The Team Out West, we should be a pain in the ass" on August fucking 6th? This isn't just the student body saying it, it's the head man himself! Multiple times in a 90 second clip. I dropped my coffee mug decorated with Ohio State's 8 National Title banners on it when I heard HE is calling Oregon that, too. What's next, making their own "Team Out West" t-shirts? Look don't get me wrong Dan Lanning, I hear you're a good coach and I hear you've got a good team and I hear you're Ohio State's biggest/only hurdle towards returning to greatness this year, but are you really this corny? Besides, it makes zero sense. He's trying to make it a "That Team Up North" Woody Hayes type of hatred that Ohio State has with Michigan, but you can't manufacture 100+ years of a rivalry because your sorry ass conference is folding. "Team Team Out West" is better reserved a school you'd say "who?" when asked about. A much better descriptor for Washington, seeing as no one cares that they joined our conference. Everyone already knows who Oregon is. They're the candyass team with the cute uniform combinations and an NIL donor that's in a race against the clock to see if he can see the program's FIRST national title before Father Time gets him.
