GASP..... The Georgia Bulldogs Are Going to Lose Two Whole Football Games This Fall!
Icon Sportswire. Getty Images. There's no denying the Georgia Bulldogs are in the midst of one of the all time greatest runs in the history of college football. Check out these accolades from the last 3 seasons.
1) Two National Championships
2) 24-0 SEC Regular Season Record
3) Two Losses Total (2021 & 2023 SEC Title Game to Alabama)
Entering 2024, the Bulldogs are once again favored to win the SEC and the national championship. And why not? Georgia has Heisman front runner QB Carson Beck under center once again with talent everywhere. The Bulldogs have an elite defense once again and possibly the most loaded roster in college football. But things are not always what they seem.
Let's take a look at the biggest questions facing Georgia this fall.
1) Can the offense replace the dynamic duo of TE Brock Bowers & WR Ladd McConkey?
The 13th and 34th pick of the NFL Draft are going to be hard to replace even for Georgia. Bowers was a once in a generation TE and McConkey had such a unique skill set. I mean look at these highlights!
Ridiculous.
Bowers missed a good bit of time with an injury last year and Georgia has a solid replacement for him at least. And the WR corps is talented too but some players are irreplaceable.
On the positives, the offensive line looks really good and Florida transfer RB Trevor Etienne is a game breaker. OC Mike Bobo did a damn good job last year too after many questioned the hire. With Beck taking snaps, this offense is going to be elite and the beat marches on.
2) Is the defense actually showing signs of regression?
Georgia had the top defense in college football in BOTH 2021 & 2022 allowing only 70 rushing yards a game. Hell, half of those defenses are currently playing for the Eagles in the NFL.
They did show some signs of mortality last fall falling from the top spot to 9th allowing over 200 yards rushing to both Auburn and Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs have solid returning starters on the defensive line but are replacing their top 3 players in the secondary.
They were able to hold onto their highly sought after defensive co-ordinator and young wizard Glenn Schumann at least and brought over ace recruiter Travaris Robinson from Bama after Nick Saban retired. This defense is still going to be very good but it is not the immovable wall of 2021 or 22.
3) Will the off-field problems bleed into the season?
The Bulldogs have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons with a rash of arrests this offseason. Almost all of them are driving related. What the hell is going on? Are there not any Ubers in Athens? In this day & age, these problems seem absurd as they are easily avoidable. Kirby Smart needs to clean this stuff up ASAP.

4) Can Georgia get through a tough schedule unscathed?
This is the biggest question to me. For years, Georgia has destroyed the weaker SEC East with very favorable schedules. That all changes this fall as the days of the two divisions are over with Oklahoma & Texas joining the SEC. The Bulldogs have THREE brutal road games at Alabama, Texas & Ole Miss too. This is by far the hardest schedule they have played in a long time.
There is no team happier about the switch to the 12 team playoff than Georgia as there is now a margin for error. They lost one game by 3 points in the SEC Championship last year and got squeezed out of the playoffs. This fall, the Dawgs can lose 2 regular season games and still make it. And that is exactly what I predict is going to happen.
Georgia is going to thrash Clemson between the hedges in Athens in a hyped up Week 1 matchup to open the season and will survive at Kentucky to be 3-0 heading to a showdown in Tuscaloosa September 28th off a bye. All eyes are going to be all over that massive game and Georgia exacts revenge from the SEC Title loss.
After home wins over Auburn & Miss State, the Bulldogs head to Austin October 19th. Winning on the road in the SEC is difficult no matter who the team is and this is where Georgia finally falls in the biggest Texas home game possibly ever.
After a much needed bye, Georgia will be ready to smash the Florida Gators in the game formerly known as the World's Largest Cocktail Party. The following week, they head to Oxford, Mississippi to take on a hyped up Ole Miss Rebel squad that is going to be ready!
Ole Miss spent the whole offseason beefing up their offensive and defensive lines after Georgia wiped them out 52-17 in Athens last fall. That pays off for the Rebels and Georgia loses their 2nd game of 2024.
The Dawgs then finish off the season with three straight home wins against Tennessee, UMASS & Georgia Tech to still get into the playoffs at 10-2. The sky ain't falling on the Bulldogs and they still will have a legit shot at winning the national title in the playoffs even if they are not a top 4 seed.
