The Title Of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' Was Changed The Night Before The Super Bowl Due To It Leaking Online
Here's a pretty wild story outta Ryan Reynolds on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night: apparently the original title of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' was 'Deadpool & Friend' - but due to the reaction that got from fans when it leaked the day before the SuperBowl reveal trailer, they swapped it at the very last minute!
I think they made the right call with this late audible personally. Titling the movie 'Deadpool & Friend' would have been funny for sure, and very along the lines of Deadpool's sense of humor (downplaying Wolverine's involvement), but 'Deadpool & Wolverine' just sounds way better and more iconic instantly. It's probably adding tons to the box office numbers, as well, because even the casuals who still don't know Deadpool definitely know Wolverine.
I doubt they care that much about the casuals impacting the box office, though, considering they almost tried to sneak this movie by us under the faux name 'Alpha Cop' according to Reynolds....
Combine that with the ORIGINAL plan for 'Deadpool 3', which was to make it an indie film for under $10 million….
….and it's clear the journey this sequel went on before turning into 'Deadpool & Wolverine' was an absolutely wild one.
