Jack Black Issues A Public Apology and Cancels Tenacious D Tour After Bandmate Kyle Gass Told An Australian Crowd His Birthday Wish Was "Don't Miss Trump Next Time"
Variety - Jack Black announced on social media that he’s canceling Tenacious D‘s current tour amid blowback against band partner Kyle Gass, who made a controversial comment at the band’s concert in Australia on July 14 related to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Black presented a cake to Gass on stage to celebrate the latter’s 64th birthday. When Black then asked Gass to make a wish, Gass responded: “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
Tenacious D was performing at Australia’s ICC Sydney Theatre the day after the assassination attempt on Trump when Gass made his comment, much to Black’s surprise. The comment was not a rehearsed bit. Information on the remaining tour dates and how fans can access refunds will be provided at a later date.
In addition to their current tour, which is now canceled, Tenacious D had also been scheduled to play a series of October concerts to support Rock the Vote, the nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to building the political power of young people.
Man. It was just last week we were talking about Jack Black and Kyle Gass flying out to meet up with Jrue Holiday to give him a massively phallic trophy -
Now, a week later, they're on stage in Sydney, thinking they're around the firepit at one of their Malibu mansions or something having a private conversation, when Gass blurts out this ridiculous comment, and now it appears the band is donezo.
Man life comes at you fast.
One second you're up there on stage singing "Fuck Her Gently", followed up by happy birthday to your buddy in front of 10,000 Aussies, and the next thing you know you're Mike Myers caught like a deer in the headlights.
For people wondering who Kyle Gass is anyways, he's Tim Robbins' best buddy, who's a pretty accomplished musician but he lied about being "the youngest person to ever graduate from Julliard ever" (claimed he was 13), when he never even went there. (Something Adam Corolla confirmed on his show). So that's kind of all you need to really know about the guy.
