A Colorado Player Says Coach Prime Playing "Daddy Ball" And Threatening To Dismiss Any Player That Missed Shedeur's Rap Concert Was The Final Straw For Many Transfers
So Athlon Sports reported that Deion Sanders made his entire team go support his son Shedeur's rap career as he performed his new single before a Lil Wayne concert following Colorado's Spring Game back in April. And the player source says that Deion "threatened to dismiss" anyone that skipped out, which completely turned off the players and was a final straw for some to transfer, seeing as it was just another example of "Daddy Ball" being played.
"The Wayne concert was the final straw for a few players who hit the transfer portal," a source said. "When Coach Prime told us we all had to be there to support Shedeur as a rapper, they were not happy at all. To be honest, it was nothing but a huge distraction and Daddy Ball was being played."
Now I must say, Coach Prime has already seen this report and responded with it being "one of the best lies" he'd ever heard:
So now we've got a classic he said / she said. And if I know anything about how this world works, the truth must lie somewhere in the middle. Do I think that players transferred out because they got a free ticket to a Lil Wayne concert and were told they had to go because QB1 was performing? No, I would imagine playing time also factored into everyone leavings frustration. But do I think that Deion stood in front of his team and said if any of you skip my boy performing his new single, you're off the team? No, I don't think those exact words came out either.
My guess is that Deion talked about how culture matters, and that supporting each other matters, and that Sheduer had a great opportunity to open for Lil Wayne, and that everyone should be a great teammate and go. Is there anything wrong with that? No. But does it just fall even harder into the narrative that Deion is all bark, no bite and just in it for the show? 100%. We're focused on rap concerts and not football. Playing for clicks, not wins!
Either way, regardless of how much truth is in this specific story, the fall of Colorado (can they fall that much if he took over a 1-11 program?) has become quite the story this off-season. 42 transfers out, coming off a season where their head coach was named Sportsperson of the Year by SI! And the haters are already lined up to see the Buffaloes lose, although their schedule appears to be much easier in the Big 12….
No official win total on Draftkings yet, but they are +3500 to win the conference and are touchdown dogs to Nebraska, Kansas State, and Utah already.
Anyways, it will be an interesting season for sure, as the whole world appeared to be high on Deion to start 2023…..but one year later, Shedeur's stock has dropped a bit with his behavior and it seems like people are officially cheering against Colorado this year.
