"The Market is The Market" - Tua Tagovailoa is Frustrated About Contract Extension

I hate that I care about this team. Look, I understand both sides. On one side, it's crystal clear that Tua is the best option we have at quarterback, and his numbers back it up. He was top 10 in pretty much every statistical category, played all 17 games, and led us to the playoffs. He's been the best QB we've had since Dan Marino.

On the other hand, you can argue that he fails to show up in big games, which is also true. As much as I like Tua, there's no denying that there's a drop-off in production from the early months of the season to late in December and January.

I'm honestly torn on what the team should do, and so is the front office. Other QBs in his draft class, like Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, and Justin Herbert, all signed big-time extensions. Tua, on the other hand, is still an unknown. Do I think he deserves the same amount of money as the guys listed above? No, but I do believe he's earned an extension. If the Dolphins' roster wasn't so talented, I'd say let him play out his 5th-year option and go from there. But that won't work with Miami's current team—they're simply too good.

Even if Tua goes out there and stinks it up, this team will win 8-9 games, meaning they won't sniff a top 10 draft pick. Free agency is no better; the best type of QB you'll ever land in free agency is a guy like Kirk Cousins or a big-time QB looking to spend his last two years in a win-now situation.

Another thing Tua has going for him is his teammates clearly have his back. Guys like Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Jordan Poyer, and many other Dolphins players have come out and said he should get paid. QBs are the prized possessions of every football team. Much like a wife, it's important to keep your QB happy. The last thing you want is an angry QB and his followers questioning the front office.

If I'm the Dolphins I'd give him a two year deal with a large signing bonus.
