A High School QB With Offers From Big Time Programs Like Georgia Has Committed To.......Toledo

Polston, who passed for 1,614 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 460 yards and six TDs as a sophomore to help Decatur Central to an 11-3 record and Class 5A state finals appearance, certainly could have waited to make a college decision. His offer list included programs like Georgia, Minnesota, Washington and West Virginia.

Let me say this: I don't need everyone and their brother to teach me that there's something different between an Offer and a committable Offer. I'm entirely aware that it's possible that this kid had offers from the schools listed above, but Toledo was the type of school that would accept him today. But all I can go off is the article saying he had offers from Georgia, Minnesota, Washington, and West Virginia......along with his Twitter showing that Kirby offered him a scholarship just a few months ago.

Seems like a pretty highly coveted prospect, ranked the #2 QB in Indiana and #30 overall QB by 247, to be able to pick up offers like that after his Sophomore season. So there were quite a few eyebrows raise yesterday when he committed to.....Toledo.

Oh shit, 1000%?? According to my calculations, that's 10x more than 100%. Seems like this kid is pretty locked in on MACtion, sorry SEC. Man, I'd love to be a fly on the wall of Bo Polston calling Kirby Smart to say hey thanks for you time, but I'm going to roll with the Rockets of Toledo. I'm guessing it probably didn't happen, and I'm assuming if it did, Kirby didn't care at all. But in my heart, I'd like the story to be that Georgia reallllly wanted him, Bo called Kirby, Kirby laughed and said enjoy the Motor City Bowl, buddy.

But even if he wasn't highly recruited by Georgia, why did he commit to Toledo as a sophomore when he had plenty of much bigger interest and two more seasons to play? I wonder if Toledo already promised him a bag with two more years of high school left….? Maybe so, or maybe they just told him he was actually going to play. I actually like his reasoning here (if he's truly not Georgia level).

"You don’t want to be holding the helmet, you want to be wearing the helmet. Don’t chase the logo. I know I had some bigger offers, but you should find the perfect fit. That’s what I did.”

Makes sense. Ohio State currently has 5 quarterbacks that could start at a whole hell of a lot of other schools, but only one is going to be QB1. So yeah, maybe this kid COULD go to Georgia or Washington, but where is he going to play? Still, the fact remains that there's plenty of tiers between the MAC and the SEC. My guess is that this kid either shows these next two years that Toledo will be the perfect fit for him, or he continues to get better and ends up at a higher level than Toledo.

Either way, huge get for Jason Candle and the Rockets. Maybe the long con is that Candle finally gets a big time job and he takes his guy Bo Polston with him….?
