Joel Embiid Is Disappointed In Sixers Fans For Letting Knicks Fans Take Over In Philly, As Sixers Fans Have Been Disappointed In The Team For A Decade Now
Yep. That should just about do it.
What a long, anguishing, frustrating road to get exactly nowhere. The Sixers are no closer to being legitimate NBA Championship contenders today as they were when Tony Wroten was leading the way. There were a few years along the way where we convinced ourselves we were on the right road. There were a few years where we knew we missed a turn somewhere along the way but figured we would still get to our destination by taking the back roads. But now it's looking like the Sixers have taken 3 left turns and heading right back to where they started from.
You've got the Wells Fargo Center being overtaken by a bunch of disgusting Knicks fans who can't afford to spend the night in New York City and watch their Knickerbockers at MSG. You've got Joel Embiid "not calling the fans out" by calling the fans out and saying it's unacceptable. You've got a team who is now just one more loss away from their season being over before the Conference Finals for the 23rd straight year. And somehow guys like Embiid don't realize that the two are connected.

Why would you spend the money to go watch a Sixers playoff game right now? What in the past 20 years gives you any sort of indication that you are going to get your money's worth?
And I'm not saying its Embiid's fault. He's certainly a part of the broader problem when it comes to how much this organization lacks the desire to go out there and simply want to win more than the other team. But Embiid can only carry so much dead weight around with him before he naturally crashes off in the 4th quarter.

Every once in a while we'll get a massive playoff game out of Embiid. But for the most part, this team doesn't have anybody who rises up to the occasion. This organization doesn't have anyone who can match the magnitude of the moment. The Philadelphia 76ers are a regular season basketball team. They are great when there's nothing on the line. When you can lose a game but still come back for another the next night? That's where this team can thrive. But once the moment gets bigger and the lights get brighter, this team cannot wait to get out of there.
So of course Knicks fans are going to fill the stadium when they can get into Wells Fargo Center for a few hundred dollars cheaper than Madison Square Garden. They have a team that's worth the money and travel. It is so financially irresponsible to go to a Sixers playoff game right now as a Sixers fan. Why spend the money to watch them get out rebounded 18-8 in the 4th quarter when you can just watch from home and flip through the channels to find something more interesting to watch any time Embiid comes off the floor?
So is it unacceptable for Sixers fans to allow Knicks fans to take over the Wells Fargo Center? Or is it unacceptable for the Sixers to continue to completely disappear in crunch time during the playoffs? I'd go ahead and say probably both. And when neither side is right in a relationship, then maybe it's time for everyone to just go their separate ways.
