Every New Giants Rumor Leading Into The NFL Draft Is To Move On From Daniel Jones - Trade Up For Drake Maye, Draft Michael Penix

I don't know if it's because the Giants have so many problems or the constant losing seasons, I'm simply not as excited for the NFL Draft this year. Usually all week I'm hooked into reading every rumor, every mock draft, convincing myself the Giants will take the right person. This year? Eh, we'll see. That's the method I'm going with.

Until today.

Until I kept on seeing the rumors that the Giants are ready to move on from Daniel Jones and try to make a move. As of now there are two rumors that are flying around the Giants Twitter world:

1. Trade up to 3 for Drake Maye

2. Draft Michael Penix as high as number 6.

I love the idea of Drake Maye. He's working with Eli Manning, which automatically is good for an extra 4 touchdowns a year. That's just basic math there. Also, it's pretty simple. If you think Maye is the guy, you do everything to go get him. You need a damn good quarterback in the NFL to have any chance to win. It's, at least for me, the most important position in all of sports that is tied to winning.

On the flip side, there's the fear that you give up too much and can't fill out all the other problems. Still need a WR1. Still need OL help. Two, you know, important things to have if you have a young quarterback. I'd assume they let Maye sit for the year and let Jones play out a year of his contract before finally moving on, but still, the problems remain for the rest of the team.

Then there's the new rumor. Possibly taking Michael Penix at 6. There might not be a quarterback in the Draft where I've seen him mocked to every single team. That's Penix. He's now rumored to go as high as 6 and I've seen people say he's going to fall. Taking him at 6 feels like a reach. That's just my guess, obviously. But you can't have a Daniel Jones part 2 where you reach for a quarterback, pass up on the easy selection (defensive Josh Allen for Jones) and then restart the cycle in a couple years. That's the biggest fear.

The rumors are there for a reason obviously, especially this close to the Draft. This is when you start to get through the smoke and figure out what rumors are real. The Patriots seem to hold all the keys to the Draft. They could, you know, draft Drake Maye too. They could get an offer that's too good to pass up. You have a handful of teams that need to move up in order to get one of these quarterbacks.

My personal wish list? Yeah, get Drake Maye. If not, take Malik Nabers at 6. I'm fine taking a quarterback later on, trying to trade back up in the first round like the Ravens did with Lamar. This team isn't ready to compete no matter who we get at 6, just set yourself up so you can start building something. It's just time to move on from Daniel Jones.
