The Guy Who Tried To Assassinate President Reagan Claims He Is The Victim Of Cancel Culture As All Of His Concerts, (Yes, He’s A Singer Now), Continue To Be Cancelled

NY Post - Would-be assassin-turned-folk singer John Hinckley Jr., who attempted to kill President Ronald Reagan in 1981, insisted he was a victim of “cancel culture” after his latest concert was called off.

The 68-year-old was scheduled to perform at the Hotel Huxley in Naugatuck, Connecticut, on March 30 — 43 years to the day after he attacked Reagan — but the gig was postponed indefinitely, he told The Post. 

“I think that’s fair to say: I’m a victim of cancel culture,” Hinckley Jr. opined.

“It keeps happening over and over again.”

A message on the venue’s Instagram posted last week read, “You Guessed It: Postponed Until Further Notice (They’re killin us here).”

Hinckley, who releases his songs on YouTube to his 36,000 subscribers, estimated that a dozen of his scheduled performances were canned because “owners don’t want the controversy.”

“They book me and then the show gets announced and then the venue starts getting backlash,” he told The Post over the phone from his Williamsburg, Virginia, home. 

“The owners always cave, they cancel. It’s happened so many times, it’s kinda what I expect,” he added.

“I don’t really get upset.”

First things first. I've seen a lot of "press kit" photos from artists and DJs in my life. This might be the most bad ass I've ever seen.

Secondly, what the fuck is everybody's problem? 

How does a guy who tried to assassinate the leader of the free world  ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶p̶r̶i̶s̶o̶n̶ get canceled? 

It seems like we're canceling all the wrong people now. Controversy sells baby! The more controversial the better. Ask Dave Chapelle.

One of my "5 year goals" for our company EOS is to acquire or open a live music venue by 2029. You can bet your ass if I have 2,000+ seats to fill, I'm booking John Hinckley's ass. Nothing sells more in 2024 than controversy.

Our president and his son are dirtier than a pig pen, and he got more votes than any president in history! 

The guy running against him is (allegedly) a rapist. 

Everywhere in the news you've got college kids who are way smarter than everybody else in the world trying to prove they can protest harder than other schools. 

These are real-world problems. Real-world controversy. John Hinckley is still being persecuted for a boo-boo he made before most of us were even alive. 

And, not to mention, it wasn't even his fault. It was Hollywood's (per usual)

Hinckley was inspired to attack the president after watching “Taxi Driver” and developing an obsession with actress Jodie Foster, whom he hoped to impress with the shooting. 

“I’m just not the person I used to be. I have a different mindset than I did long, long ago,” he said, refusing to elaborate or talk about the assassination attempt.

“I don’t want to dwell on the past,” Hinckley added. “Let’s stay in the present.”

Love that perspective. "What? The time I tried to murder the President of The United States in broad daylight? That's in the past man. Let's focus on the present please." 

(Real talk- this is pretty fucking hilarious. If you check this guys twitter it's literally this over and over. John announces a show, links his eventbrite to buy tickets. And a day or two later, it's canceled.)
