52-Year-Old Jaromir Jagr Is Still Lighting The Lamp And Saving His Team From Relegation In The Czech League
I made a promise to myself, and I made a promise to the people, that there will be a blog every time that Jaromir Jagr scores a goal while playing in a professional hockey game. We never know how many more there will be, but somehow this legend just refuses to stop filling up the back of the net.
There have been thousands upon thousands of guys who have played professional ice hockey at some level all across the world. Jaromir Jagr just became the first and only to ever light the lamp as a 52-year-old.
It's been a rough year for Kladno. They played 52 games this season and only won 7 of them in regulation. They finished in the basement of the top Czech league, so now they have to play a series against VHK Vsetin who won the Czech 2nd league. Winner of this series stays in the top division, loser drops down into the 2nd tier. Jaromir Jagr hadn't played in a game since he took a trip out to Pittsburgh for his jersey retirement ceremony in February. But do you think this man is going to just sit up in the press box and watch his team get relegated?
Not a goddamn chance in heck. He's lacing up the skates and scoring in his first shift of the game to make sure those jackasses stay in the top league. I'm sure Jaromir Jagr loves the shit out of scoring goals. But I also have to imagine that at this point in his life, he loves money a little more. And you figure you'd end up making a lot more money as the owner of a team in the top Czech league as opposed to owning a team that just got relegated. Jagr had history on the line to become the oldest player to score a professional hockey goal, but he also had his wallet on the line as well. There's not a single universe where Jaromir Jagr plays in that game and doesn't immediately get the boys on the board to lock up a huge win to stave off relegation. Then he gets to go home to his 24-year-old girlfriend and have himself a night. Nobody does it better than Jags.
