Thank God Ohio State Got OUR Guy Jake Diebler Instead Of Falling For The John Calipari Trap

So the story goes that John Calipari was exploring options to leave Kentucky back in February, and with Chris Holtmann having been fired by Ohio State, the guy became seriously interested in the Buckeye job. People are saying he actually reached out to Ohio State about the position, but at that time the buyout was cost-prohibitive for the Buckeyes to take on.

All I'm saying is I was under the impression that there's no longer anything that is cost prohibitive for Ohio State.....

I know he doesn't technically start until July 1st, but if he wanted Calipari....who is obviously coming from the SEC just like Texas A&M.....then I think we'd have found the funds to get him. So it doesn't take a genius, just someone that understands the Transitive Property, to realize that we didn't want him that bad. And with good reason, too. Don't get me wrong...I'm sure we'd have gotten recruits. Calipari can do that, and Ohio State's brand is as strong as any in the country. He'd have had endless resources to do whatever he wants. But he did at Kentucky too....and he still hasn't been winning? No, I don't want some mercenary to come in here for a few years, sell our souls to bring in top talent that will be one-and-done, and then see him leave when the going gets tough here as well. The fact of the matter is John Calipari may have wanted Ohio State....but Ohio State wanted Jake Diebler. Wet got our guy.

And to the people thinking I wouldn't have had this same opinion if we actually hired Calipari, let us please revisit what I blogged on the very day we fired Holtmann.

And I see there are crazy people online saying we should target Greg McDermott, Mick Cronin, Sean Miller, or laughably make John Calipari say "No", but even if he would (which he wouldn't) say Yes, I don't want him.

I'm not falling for the Calipari trap. I want a program builder, not a roster builder. I want a Coach, not an Agent. And plus, I want someone who's blood doesn't just run red, it runs Scarlet.

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred thousand times, we need OHIO GUYS guiding the ship here in Columbus. And we're 1 more loss to those motherfuckers up North again this November, Ryan Day will be the next New Hampshire resident to get booted from Columbus. I just think there's something different about working for the biggest pride of the state in your home state. It means more. I'm glad we got Upper Sandusky grad, Jake Diebler. And our players clearly are too:

They're staying home….and others are flocking to Ohio…more than the people are this morning for the Solar Eclipse today!
