The Barstool Chicago Film Festival Is Going To Be A Movie (Literally)

TLDR: The Chicago office is going to turn into a mini movie studio with 4 teams competing to create the best possible short film within 2 days.

Here are the basics.

WHAT IS THE BARSTOOL CHICAGO FILM FESTIVAL?

Four teams of Chicago employees are going to have 2 days to write, film & edit a short film. There will be a draft on the Yak of aspects that each team much incorporate into their project (Genre, tropes, cameos, scenes, barstool quotes). The films will be made with the goal of winning awards from the office academy such as Best Film, Best Actor, etc.

WHO IS INVOLVED?

There will be 4 teams with actors and crew members made up of employees of the Chicago office

WHEN WILL IT COME OUT?

- April 15th: Teams are announced on the Yak
- April 17th-19th: Filming begins after the Yak on the 17th and continues until it begins on the 19th
- April 19th-25th: Campaigns begin for awards, teasers come out
- April 26th: The festival begins with a live red carpet into the premiere of the films.

WHY SHOULD I CARE?

The funniest minds at the Chicago office are all getting together and pouring their creativity and resources into four separate 5-12 minute films. Not only might you see people in their usual bag but, because of the draft, you might have people taking some stabs outside of their wheelhouse! KB and Nick making a horror movie? Mook starring in a drama? Caitlyn Walker & Connor Griffin starring in a romance that Brandon is forced to direct? Literally anything can happen.

By the way, this is all made possible due to BOY KILLS WORLD, which looks incredible in it's own right.

A dystopian fever dream action film that follows Boy, a deaf person with a vibrant imagination. When his family is murdered, he is trained by a mysterious shaman to repress his childish imagination and become an instrument of death.

There are a few things I want to point out that maybe don't jump off the screen for every moviegoer.

The first is a trio of amazing castings in Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji and Sharlto Copley. Ruhian is an incredible martial arts actor who has been in some of the best action movies ever made in 'The Raid', The Raid 2' and 'John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum'. He's a master at the Indonesian martial art penack silat, having been a international trainer and referee. Koji is also an incredible martial artist in his own right, having competed in taekwondo and trained in Shaolin Kung Fu. He has been absolutley crushing the role of Ah Sahm in 'Warrior', one of the best action series ever made. He also did great work in 'Snake Eyes' and 'Bullet Train'. Copley you probably recognize as the protagonist in 'District 9' & also the incredibly menacing villain of 'Elysium'. He's an awesome actor who looks to be playing a Caesar Flickerman-Hunger Games type role.

Another thing worth noting for a movie like this is that fight coordinator Dawid Szatarski has a pretty solid record. He worked in a mix of roles on the stunt side for a bunch of movies, most notably 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle'.

Lastly, it's H. Jon Benjamin on the track! What a delightful voice that makes everything around it better.

It comes to theaters April 26th.
