BREAKING: White Sox Deal Dylan Cease To The San Diego Padres

Today on The Mid Show, we talked about Dylan Cease pretty in depth. Trade rumors have been a swirl over the last 24 hours regarding the SP1 (yeah, I said it) and it looks like they've finally found a suitor.

It's really weird: 7 years ago when the Sox were trading away their superstars, I couldn't have been more excited. They told us point blankly it's a new era, that they were going to start acting like big boys, that they wanted to have "seats at the table" for all the big ticket free agents

Blah fucking blah.

That obviously didn't happen. Jerry sunk his dirty little paws into his personally hired front office's business so much that his wound up with Adam Eaton in RF instead of Bryce Harper and Yoan Moncada at 3B instead of Manny Machado.

That's why it's hard for me to conjure up all these emotions right now. Some people say it's a new era with Getz running the show, like my good pal Chuck Naso:

But like my Tweet says, it's hard for me to conjure any emotion. I just want the Sox to be good. That's it. This move makes them worse in the year 2024, a year that was supposed to be one they were competing for a World Series in. The exact antithesis of that is happening. They're trading their studs AGAIN.

I know it was necessary. I do. I just hate that myself and Sox fans all across the glob (lmfao) have to sit through another gut wrenching rebuild.

Doesn't matter that "notable" prospects are coming in return:

At least to me it doesn't, and that's because prospects will break your heart. We've seen it with Moncada, Eloy, Kopech, and whoever the fuck else I missed, and I know I missed a lot.

That said, let's giddy up! Or something like that. I am excited that there's ONE SINGULAR PERSON running the show instead of whatever that mess was that was the previous front office, and maybe Getz handles the Jerry situation wayyyyyy better than Kenny and Hahn did. I truly hope he does, but until then, it's just wait and see for me. Gone are the days - for me at least - where I get geeked up about a prospect return.

UPDATE: Here's the return:

I was never going to like this trade unless it was legit for Jackson Holliday or someone of that ilk, if someone of that ilk even exists, and that was never ever happening. Everything else would have induced some level of hatred or another. On that note, I hate this trade only a moderate amount. On paper it's a good trade - Thorpe's change piece is one of the best pitches in MiLB - and Zavala/Iriarte have big time tools too, but again…

…prospects will break your heart. Looking forward to Erik Fedde starting opening day:
