Christian Wilkins Leaving Miami Means Dolphins Fans Worst Nightmare Has Just Begun

If enduring an 8-day journey across the country in a Chrysler Mini-Van that smelled like beef jerky and feet wasn't enough to break me, Christian Wilkins leaving Miami certainly will. Wilkins was by far the most important player on our entire defense. Not only did he demand double teams and blow up A-gaps, but he was also the leader of our locker room. This would be like Dave telling Big Cat to go work for another company because he wants too much money. If Big Cat left, the Chicago office would turn into an apocalypse overnight. The same thing is going to happen with the Miami Dolphins.

I get it, $27.5M is A LOT of money for a DT, but Wilkins is so much more than that. He is the guy who sets the tone for this team. No one else on our team is out there snagging towels or grabbing ballsacks in the middle of piles. It might sound sus, but I'm telling you that shit matters. His energy was contagious. At the end of the day, playing in the NFL is just like any other job. The players still have to show up everyday, go to meetings, go to practice, eat lunch together, deal with internal conflict, etc.

Some people use the term "personalities hires," but I call them the glue. They're the ones that hold the family together. I couldn't tell you who's going to step up for this team. Maybe Jalen Ramsey? I have no clue, but we need to figure that out. It's easy for anyone to grab screenshots of stats to measure a player's worth, but for me, it's so much more than that. What he brought to the field was one thing, but what he brought to the locker room simply cannot be measured, and his departure will without a doubt be felt.

Christian, I know you're not reading this, but if you are, I want to let you know that I love you. I haven't been this upset about a player leaving in years. I know what you brought to this team, and I know you gave us everything you had. Enjoy the new contract, and I wish you nothing but the best going forward.
