I Interviewed The Detroit Tigers Ace Of The Future

I'll tell you what: the Detroit Tigers organization is out here saving my job. Thank God, 'cause it's not like they've given me a lot to work with on the field since I started working here. For people who might not be familiar, Jackson Jobe was the Tigers first-round pick in 2021. He was the first pitcher off the board and the third player taken overall. Despite being part of the 40-man roster, he was unsurprisingly told by the manager, AJ Hinch, that he would not make the team out of spring training. He'll likely spend a lot of the year in AA.

While doing these, I realized that I'm getting older every day, right? I wouldn't consider myself old by definition. I mean, I'm only 28, but when you talk to somebody like Jackson Jobe, I come to terms with the fact that there are adults in the world right now who are noticeably younger than I am. What's that line from "Spider-Man 2?" He's just a kid. No older than my son." I obviously don't have a son, but Jobe is still a youngster. If you're unfamiliar with Jackson Jobe, you might want to get to know him by now. Many people believe he's the ace of the future for the Detroit Tigers.

Taking a high school pitcher number three overall is something of a risk. There's a long history of those guys either not making it to the league or struggling once they get there. For a minute, it seemed like Jobe was heading that way following a lumbar injury in 2022, but he had a fantastic year last year. His stuff and command are elite, but health and durability are the biggest question marks. Jobe was open that his main goal this year is to have a healthy season. He was excellent a year ago, but he only pitched 62 innings, a far cry from what he'll need once we get to the big leagues.

We have some more really interesting interviews lined up over the next few weeks. This Friday, I'll be uploading an interview that I did with Kelly Keegs. Considering the two people involved in that content, I'm sure that will be polarizing. Today, I'm going to be recording an interview with former number-one overall pick Casey Mize. That should be up next week. Stay tuned and continue to like and subscribe.
