Father Of The Year Bradley Cooper Says In The Early Months Of Being a Dad He Questioned If He Loved His Kid And Whether He'd Die If Someone Threatened Them With a Gun
Honesty is a beautiful thing. When you get people to open up and let out all their internal thoughts that have been hiding for years it's really nice to see. Witnessing big time athletes and celebrities do this from time to time is refreshing. We just want to be able to relate to others.
Then there's Bradley Cooper talking about the first eight months of his kid's life when he contemplated whether he loved his newborn daughter as well as what he'd do if a maniacal gunman barged through the door and threatened her safety. Human meat shield or run at the crazy man to protect YOUR kid #healthydebate
(Page Six) “The first eight months — I don’t even know if I really love the kid,” he recalled feeling. “It’s dope. It’s cool. I’m watching this thing morph.”
“That’s my experience,” the actor continued. “Fascinated by it. Loved taking care of it. But would I die if someone came in with a gun?”
Incredible. Genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever read out of a celebrity's mouth. Feels like something Dennis Reynolds or Michael Scott would bring up. Was ready for him to say he'd take Jake Elliott making every kick for the Birds over the life of his child.
I totally understand that questioning your attachment levels and love for your newborn is not a completely rare thought to have as a parent. They can't talk, walk, or work to help provide for your family. What's to love? The poop and throw up coming out of them all the time? I get it. The thing is, maybe don't go a step further and say the guy with a gun part.
Hypothetically speaking, let's say you were recently moved to actual tears when asked what you miss about someone you NEVER met. Don't you think it might be tough to follow that up saying you didn't know if you liked your own kid eight months into their life? Weird look admitting you'd be unsure of what to do when faced with a lunatic threatening you with a gun.
Again, totally hypothetical.
Lucky for the kid, Cooper eventually came around and would do anything for her. Heartwarming stuff. Dad of the year.
He admitted after only a couple months into her life, he wasn’t sure.
“And then all of a sudden, it’s like no question,” he added.
Cooper confessed shortly after explaining he’s since strived to be a better person in order “to do the least amount of damage that [he] could do to [his] daughter.”
Moral of the story? Lying is definitely okay sometimes.
