UFC Corner Tells Their Nearly Blinded Fighter: "You Don't Need Your Eyes! Just Fight!"
Daniel Zellhuber just laid an absolute beatdown on Francisco Prado at UFC Mexico City. He jabbed Prado's face off all fight, cutting him over the right eye BADLY and then teeing off on the half-blind fighter for three straight rounds.
By the end of the fight, Prado's face looked like a crime scene....
....but the toughness and resiliency shown by him tonight earned him the respect of not only Zellhuber, but the thousands in that arena and millions watching around the world. It was some real ROCKY like grit to battle through that and make it to the final bell.
In the second round, though - Prado's corner said something to him over and over again that left my mouth agape. As Prado tried to tell them he couldn't see very well, they responded: "You don't need eyes! Just fight!"
It could've been lost in translation, I suppose, but they said it over and over! They couldn't have been more clear.
I've never heard a coach say that eyes aren't necessary in an MMA fight, but unfortunately, those words of reassurance weren't enough for Prado to get the comeback victory. I believe he did, in fact, need those eyes in the end.
As a future guide: some people who don't need their eyes to fight....
