Rick Pitino Won't Apologize For Saying This St. John's Team Is The Most Unenjoyable Thing In His Life, Doubles Down On It All

You know the story by now. Sunday night St. John's blows a 19-point lead to Seton Hall and Rick Pitino talks about how he basically hates his life because his team fucking stinks. Fair. There's nothing worse than watching a shitty team, let alone coaching one. They will ruin your life, that's just a fact. But since we live in 2024 and God forbid you speak your mind or whatever, everyone assumed Pitino would apologize or walk back some of his comments.

Nope!

[Source] - "I was pointing out exactly -- in a monotone voice -- why we lost," he told Newsday. "I am not always calm and certainly not when I rip someone ... I was not ripping anybody.

"I sometimes want my players to hear my words and read my words. That was my intention [Sunday]."

He was a monotone voice! You can't be accused of ripping anyone when you're in a monotone voice. Gotta remember that the next time I'm on camera and gotta get some shit off my chest. All fair if you're calm, monotone and not raising your voice. Then it's just fine. Welcome to the Pitino era though. You think he'll apologize? This guy? He will simply explain that he stands by what he says. I love that he wanted his players to hear and read his words. Can't just talk to them in the locker room, get that shit on Twitter and drive it home.

He's already getting dragged on Twitter for this:

Tough look to have that tweet out there after saying 'you knew in the summer this team was ass (basically).' Not only that he went name by name and said how all of the guys are slow or need to be tough. Love seeing him call out everyone by name. If you're going to go on a rant like this you have to throw names out. Even better is this quote:

Pitino also told Newsday he didn't think he needed to clarify any of his comments from Sunday's news conference, noting, "I'm fine with what I said."

Clarify? Buddy, I already told you this is the most unenjoyable thing of his career. How much clarification do you think he needed to say? Of course he's not going to apologize. What good would that do? His team is blowing a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. You think an I'm sorry is going to solve that? This isn't a relationship where you just toss out an I'm sorry to avoid a fight and move on with life. This is college basketball. Rick Pitino is willing to die over losses, he ain't apologizing.
