The Cast Of 'Fantastic Four' Has Officially Been Announced And It ROCKS

WOW. This feels bizarre to see come to fruition because every single one of these actors was the rumored stars for a lonnnng time. The odds of that actually being true, nobody dropping out, etc feels very low.

Lets go over the big 4 in order of best to worst.

1. Pedro Pascal. This is an absolute home run. There are few actors on a bigger hot streak in the popular entertainment space. We've seen him bring the goods as a gritty character a bunch of times but this will also be an interesting challenge because I cannot recall any time that he has played a mega-genius character. Although, from my own limited exposure to Reed Richards, he doesn't seem like much of an asshole. Obviously Office Jim was rumored for this role forever and he got a bone thrown to him with the Multiverse of Madness but this is the the superior casting in my opinion.

2. Vanessa Kirby. Like Pascal, Kirby has been on a tear of late. She absolutley crushed it in both of the last Mission: Impossible movies, Napoleon, The Crown, and Pieces of a Woman. She's rocked in both serious dramas and big entertainment movies so I see no reason why she won't be great as Storm and have a solid chemistry with Pascal. Although, I will note that she was part of the alleged bizarro Jake G behavior story from a couple weeks ago.

3. Ebon Moss-Bachrach. This dude is a god damn STAR. If you don't watch The Bear, he has been arguably the best actor in the entire series and delivered one of the best episodes of the entire show in the Spoons episode. He's got great chops, a perfectly pained voice and expression which should translate great to a relatively tragic character in Ben Grimm.

4. Joseph Quinn. To be honest, I don't understand this one at all. Everything I know about Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch is that he is a hot, cocky jock. Nothing about Eddie Munster from Stranger Things screams that to me. Nothing about any British person who has ever lived screams that to me. But, whatever, what do I know.

This news was really important because Marvel, if nothing else, needs to be nailing castings to keep their hype machine rolling after back to back disappointing phases post-Endgame. The pressure is out there any they have to feel it. The "good" thing about this particular property is that there is nowhere to go but up compared to the previous iterations. The first two movies were underwhelming and the reboot with Miles Teller was one of the worst comic book movies ever made. We interviewed director Matthew Vaughn a while back and he said as much to us as well, noting a TON of studio interference.

So, unlike the X-Men movies which do have legitimate bangers (Logan, Days of Future Past, First Class), there isn't a massive expectation based on previous entries. However, this movie will be the first of the Fox anchor names to get on the big screen after Deadpool & Wolverine sets them up later this year. So if this movie is a fluke, how do people trust the future X-Men movies?

Anyway, enough of the pessimism. This is a great cast & really good director in Matt Shakman. He directed nearly 50 episodes of It's Always Sunny, did all of Wandavision and did episodes of Game of Thrones, Fargo, Billions, The Boys, Succession, The Great, Mad Men and more.

I feel like I've been saying this for the better part of 2 years now, but don't fuck this up, Marvel.
