'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' Looks Like The Perfect Sequel To This Underrated Franchise

Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he's been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Action, intrigue and mocap. That's what the apes are about, baby!

For my money's worth, this has to be the most under-appreciated franchise in movies right now. It is a reboot of an old-ass movie that already had a massive failure of a reboot in the Tim Burton movie and yet every movie in the franchise bangs. Zero misses. Andy Serkis cuttin' a rug and showing why he is the king of motion capture.

To me, this movie will be a much bigger test. Matt Reeves, who directed the first three, is not directing this one and Serkis is also not involved. Instead, it is Wes Ball at the helm who has only done the Maze Runner trilogy (meh). He comes from the world of VFX, though, and is apparently well regarded since he not only got this job but was tabbed to do a Zelda movie for Sony as well. I trust my old boss Peter Chernin knows what he's doing and that this will be a banger as well.

P.S. Anyone get a vibe from this trailer that the ape might be fuckin that lady? Weird.

This is in theaters May 10th.
