Antonio Gates is a player that defined the position of Tight End. If you asked a casual NFL fan to name the greatest tight ends of all time, Gates is one of the first names that will come to mind. He was an absolute animal and, to everyone with a functioning brain, is an obvious 1st ballot hall of famer. And yet, he didn't make the cut.
Instead, we got the list of dudes above. Lets see how he stacks up against a few of them.
To be clear, I think everyone on that list should be a hall of famer. People were shitting their pants over Hester which I REALLY don't get. If you are drafting the all-time NFL roster, Hester is the first returner off the board. Literally THE definitive returner in the entire history of football.
All of that said, Gates deserves to be in the Hall over every person who made it yesterday. He is the definition of a first-ballot hall of famer and anyone who voted otherwise belongs in jail.
