Sam McGuffie's HS Highlight Tape Is Still The Greatest Of All Time

SUBSCRIBE TO BARSTOOL CHICAGO ON ALL PLATFORMS

ICYMI - we had Bears tight end Cole Kmet in studio with Taylor Lewan of Bussin last week to draft a backyard football squad. I often get nervous when we have outsiders on to do the draft since they typically know draft dynamics, but Cole killed it.

That's where my compliments start and end, however. The lemmings were out in FULL FORCE both as we recorded last week and over the last two days.

But WSD, what are they bitching about you midget?

They're bitching about me taking Sam McGuffie in a backyard football draft.

I'll just start from the top: when going over the draft prior to pushing record, we used Tom Brady as an example. Obviously he's probably the greatest QB of all time, but in backyard football you want someone who's a twitchy freak athlete, like Vick.

Tom Brady doesn't qualify there for obvious reason.

That's where people lose me bitching about my McGuffie pick, especially all of those on the panel. Obviously McGuffie didn't do shit at Michigan (or Rice, where he wound up) and never so much as sniffed anything more than a practice squad in the NFL, but to me, that's not the point.

Like...no shit he's not Ladanian Tomlinson. Or Marshall Faulk. Or any other fast twitch freak RB. I could have easily taken them and here's how the conversation would have gone:

Me: "I'm taking Ladanian Tomlinson. He's the best running back of my lifetime, IMO"
Ryan: "Yeah he was incredible. Love the pick."
Taylor: "Nothing to add. Insane RB. One of the best to ever wear the REAL powder blues. Not that Tennessee Titan trash"
Cole: "Could have been the first pick of the draft"
Ed: "I mean, Idk...I see it both ways...we'll see I guess...He was a stud for sure but I just don't know..."

blah blah blah. I could have gone that route, but for the sake of content, I thought outside the box and was met with nothing but jeers. Take away the fact that none of my idiotic coworkers/Cole understand that I'm not actually building a real life backyard football team, he was a great pick anyways.

I mean, these highlights are absurd. Legendary for reason:

Forgive me for trying to avoid mundane, redundant conversation that's already been had 5x over the course of the first 30 mins of the show. I should have gotten bonus points for creativity, not met with disgust.

I mean Cole was legit disgusted with the pick:

Lemmings. The whole lot of em. No shit he didn't do anything in the NFL, Ed. That's not the goddamn point. Point was to drive conversation to one of the all time great highlight reels.

Next time I'll just go with Chalk and keep it moving, I suppose.
