Congratulations Everyone - You Just Allowed A Dynasty In The Kansas City Chiefs To Be Able To LEGALLY Play The "No One Believed In Us But Us" Card If They Win Super Bowl LVIII

How many more times are we going to need to learn to stop betting against Pat Mahomes?

It looks like at least one more time. The Chiefs will enter Super Bowl LVIII as a two-point dog vs the San Fransisco 49ers - the #1 seed from the NFC that was favored in every playoff game so far and will be once again for the big game.

The only thing worse than a team playing the "no one believed in us, but us" (NOBIUBU) card is when they use it legally. It's rare, but it happens. At least if the 49ers win and play it we can all point and laugh. But I'm preparing for something even worse than a well played NOBIUBU. We might have a situation in which a freaking DYNASTY team is legally able to play it if the Chiefs are able to beat the favored (and so-called underdog) 49ers.

Did the Chiefs sort of manifest this doubt themselves by playing mediocre at best football for stretches during the regular season? Of course. But they went 2/2 in Patrick Mahomes' first ever road playoff games and 3/3 in beating the spread during the entirety of the playoffs. Mahomes is now just the seventh quarterback to beat the spread in five or more consecutive playoff games within a three-year span in the past couple decades:

As you can discern, Mahomes has gone five for his last five straight up as well. And the fact of the matter is, if they win the Super Bowl, they will have won as dogs in 3/4 post season games this season. You and I might hate it, but this is NOBIUBU eligible.

I guess the argument here is they were "lucky" to have a path that allowed them to beat some Floridians playing at absolute zero Kelvin, then took advantage of a beat up Bills defense, and finally benefited from a poor Baltimore game plan. But what about the 49ers? This team was dead to rights. Twice. Sure, they're a 1-seed (also perennial underdogs - don't forget), but if I had to rank #1 seeds of the past few years I'm not sure I can think of a shakier option.

Just because Mahomes has beat the spread in his last five playoff games doesn't mean he will again for a sixth. But I'm gearing up to make a play on it for SURE and wager my largest bet of the year on the Chiefs moneyline. I'm talking five digits baby! And one decimal.

You want to be treated like an underdog San Francisco? I'm your Huckleberry. But if I'm going to have to watch an eyeroll worthy NOBIUBU under confetti precipitation that I can't even be mad at because it's true then I'm going to need the comfort of having a little bit more money to lose on March Madness.

Chiefs: 30

Underdog #1 Seed: 17
