#WeWantCody Is The #1 Trend In The United States After The Rock Stole His WrestleMania Main Event Last Night

If there's one thing you gotta know about hardcore wrestling fans, it's that we LOVE to complain about the WWE on the internet.

Whether it was the era of John Cena being an untouchable superhero, Daniel Bryan getting shafted outta the main event scene, Roman Reigns being shoved down our throats, or now, The Rock stealing Cody Rhodes' WrestleMania main event against Roman Reigns - the "WWE Universe" are always gonna have their voices heard.

Today, they're speaking with the hashtag "#WeWantCody" and the thumbs down button on every platform they could get their hands on....

Yes, The Rock is typically beloved in the wrestling world - but for the second time now, it feels like he's swooping in to steal a WrestleMania main event from someone who has been busting their ass for the company all year. He did it over ten years ago to CM Punk (and put on a pretty bad match at WrestleMania 29, where he quickly tore his quadriceps and suffered a hernia), and now he's doing it to Cody Rhodes.

They actually made Cody trot him out like he was happy about this arrangement last night, too! It was insane....

I can't imagine the range of emotions Cody Rhodes has felt in the past week, going from legitimately taking steps to setting up the main event with Roman Reigns….

….while mentioning that everyone thought The Rock would steal this away from him, but he's "the guy" and always has been….

….and then he finds out that CM Punk is hurt (and therefore out of the Night 1 main event with Seth Rollins), so plans had to change, and The Rock would be stealing it from him.

According to Dave Meltzer, that's pretty much what happened, too. Dave reported that The Rock was either going to face Roman Reigns in Saudi Arabia or at next year's WrestleMania until Punk's injury threw a wrench in things, and Dwayne stepped in to "save the card" or whatever. There's even some speculation that this was done to get the spotlight off of the Vince McMahon lawsuit, and if that was the goal, I'd have to admit that they succeeded.

I just don't know why this all had to happen at the expense of Cody - who really should've been given the championship last year, anyway. He's been the most over babyface in the company for two years and deserves it more than anybody.

The Rock could've been the Special Guest Referee for Cody vs Reigns and brought just as much attention to the event, setting up the match against Roman for a later date in the process, but instead he's gotta get in the ring now and wrestle his first match in eleven years, ruining Cody's two-year storyline/build. Fans who haven't tuned into the product regularly in years will be happy to be given a jolt of nostalgia at WrestleMania, but almost everyone who enjoys the week-to-week shows seems upset….

Carrabis and I hopped down into the Basement and recorded a mini-pod about this earlier today, so check it out if you want to dive deeper into why a lot of us are so pissed….
