Fantasy Series Author Sarah J Maas Surprised Fans At A Midnight Book Release And The Place Went INSANE
I've gone on and on about the rising wave of popularity that fantasy books (by women) have been riding on for the past year or so, and man, did I need a win on this one. Sarah J Maas is the author of a very popular 5 book series called A Court Of Thornes and Roses. It's all about a fantasy world with magic and Fae, war, sex, demons, the whole nine. It's fantastic. I'd say it's something along the lines of Hunger Games, Twilight and a little splash of Fifty Shades of Grey. She also has two other series of books that have become pretty popular too, Throne Of Glass (7 books, I haven't started these yet) and Crescent City which, as of midnight last night, has released its third book in the series. I'm currently about halfway done with 2, so DON'T SPOIL. I promise I'll be done with both in a week/week and a half. The Crescent City books are set in the same universe as the ACOTAR series (but in modern times with cell phones, human integration, etc instead of that traditional "magic" kind of world), and without spoiling anything, the theories online say that eventually they will overlap. FUN FOR THE FANS!
What's also so fun about all of this is, look how many people are out there at the Union Square Barnes and Noble for a midnight book release!! When is the last time you saw people doing this? Harry Potter? These girls are FERAL for their fairy porn and I don't blame them. These books have a strong female protagonist who nearly always ends up being stronger than all of the male characters, the male characters are presented as respectful and protective, and the universe itself/war conflicts are intricate and exciting. There are conflicts in bloodlines, lines of succession, different creatures with different powers, it's all nuts. So nuts, that it has girls jumping up and down for an AUTHOR like she's Taylor Swift. Bravo, Sarah!
The only advice I'd give when starting any of these series is to be patient with the first book as its a lot of world building (and completely necessary and totally pays off eventually.) I'd say if you aren't already into fantasy books, start with Crescent City. It's an easy way to dip your toes, and it has a bit of murder mystery element to it, too.
