Chicago Man Was Arrested For Robbing A Lincoln Park Bank Just Three Days Being Acquitted Of Robbing A Different Bank

Federal officials say a Chicago man robbed a Lincoln Park bank on Monday, just three days after a jury found him not guilty of robbing a different bank.

Mohamed Worku, 31, was charged in December 2021 with robbing the Fifth Third Bank at 3957 West 26th Street. At the time, federal prosecutors said he placed a demand note with words to the effect of “give me the money” on a plexiglass partition at a teller station.

On Friday, though, a federal jury found Worku not guilty of bank robbery, and U.S. District Judge John Kness set him free.

Federal prosecutors now say Worku robbed a different bank less than 72 hours after the jury returned its verdict.

Around 1:59 p.m. Monday, a man passed a note to a teller at Citibank, 2001 North Halsted, in Lincoln Park.

“Please Give me the money I’ll pay it back soon banker’s Gife to me in advance,” the note read, according to a federal complaint filed Tuesday.

Man, I have to say...I feel bad for this guy, Mohamed. The most polite bankrobber I've ever heard of. He wasn't robbing the bank, per se. Sounds like he was asking for a loan and didn't really understand the process. He said he would pay it back clear as day. Is it his fault that the bank teller pissed down his leg and gave him $1800 bucks? I say no. And let's say that he was intending to rob the bank. Can't really blame him for that either. The logic is sound. You just got acquitted for robbing a bank. You don't stop when you're on a heater.

If you're going to levy a criticism on Mohamed, I suppose you could say that he is the WORST bank robber ever. Highlighter yellow hat and gloves that could be seen from space and he just...never took them off. Act like you've done this before, which you have. Throw the evidence in the dumpster. Switch getaway cars. Basically...just watch The Town once. Having said that...being a terrible bank robber also makes him kind of endearing. This guy is genuinely harmless. Small amounts of money that he says he will pay back soon. Never threatened anyone. Never hurt anyone. I think we need to free Mohamed and just help him find a job.
