'Godzilla Minus One' Received The First Oscar Nomination In The History Of Godzilla Movies And The Team's Live Reaction Was Incredible

Well if that doesn't put a smile on your face then I don't know what will. That my friends is the first Oscar nomination for a Godzilla movie EVER. 70+ years of Zilla and we finally got one. I don't care if it's just for visual effects, we're on the board. Look how happy the team is to see their work get some legit acknowledgement. That's some wholesome shit right there.

You do have to wonder what the team was going to do if they didn't pop up on that list. Have to assume they knew it was a lock with all the streamers and confetti they had on deck, right? Maybe the contingency plan if they were snubbed was to make the sequel about Godzilla destroying Hollywood.

The movies and their respective budgets this is up against are hilarious: Guardians Vol. 3 ($250M) MI7 ($290M) Napolean ($200M) The Creator ($80M).

Godzilla's budget was originally rumored in the $15M-$20M range. Their director laughed at that, wishing he had that luxury.

They made this masterpiece with no room for error and very limited resources. Those other movies probably had 10 times the video editors that they had to work with. Now do Japanese wage laws cap how much you can earn and sort of force such efficiency? Definitely, but either way this was incredibly impressive. Everyone who worked on this deserves the recognition they're receiving and then some.

Should they have been up there for best international movie as well? Absolutely, but the rules dictate one per country and Japan went with Perfect Days. No offense to that movie and whatever it's about, but Minus One kicked its ass. It really might be the best Godzilla movie ever as I detailed when it first came out. If you haven't seen it yet, find a way to get it in front of you and I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself.
