All Is Fine: Memphis Becomes First Top-10 Team In 13 Years To Blow A 20-Point Lead At Home, Penny Promptly Hints The Team Hates Each Other

We're seeing top-25 teams lose all over the place. This one though is significant for 2 reasons - 1) the 20 point lead that they blew and 2) it makes me and Titus actually look smart. We talked about it the other day on The Mark Titus Show, Memphis is basically the Eagles of college basketball:

Why are they the Eagles? Allow me to explain. Going into last night they were 15-2, ranked No. 10 in the country and everyone started talking about them like they were an awesome team. Howevah, those wins were basically Jahvon Quinerly buzzer beaters against, uh, let's just say not great teams. A whole lot of close games mixed in getting their ass beat by Villanova in the Bahamas. Yes, wins matters, but no one really thought they were a top-10 team except AP voters, which we know how smart they are.

Now they are even more like the Eagles. Last night after the loss, Penny started insinuating the team kinda hates each other:

Sound familiar? We're one step away from like Malcolm Dandridge blowing up on the sidelines a la AJ Brown. I don't think Penny is nearly as much of a shithead as Nick Sirriani, but they have some similarities. They talk some shit, they don't really back it up, Penny especially. He's been fine, but it's not like Memphis is competing for titles or making runs. I'm far from a Penny hater, he's been one of the better former NBA players returning home to coach in college.

All I know is at some point you can't do this after a loss. You're the head coach of a team who is going to be in the Tournament and has some expectations. Maybe figure it out? That's what I'd do, but I'm just a blogger. It's not even all that bad for Memphis, they are projected to go 24-7, although that's mostly due to playing in a shit conference. Outside of FAU there's nobody good in the American. You sure as hell can't say this publicly after blowing a 20 point lead.
