FINALLY GOOD NEWS: The White Sox Are In Talks To Build A Brand New Stadium In The Heart Of The South Loop

(SUN TIMES

The White Sox are negotiating with developer Related Midwest about the possibility of building a new ballpark on the South Loop parcel known as “the 78.”

Sources familiar with the talks, all of whom asked to remain anonymous, described the negotiations for a baseball-only stadium as “serious.”

The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, which owns and financed Guaranteed Rate Field, has not yet been involved in the discussions, according to the authority’s CEO Frank Bilecki. At some point, the stadium authority would need to get involved in determining the future of Guaranteed Rate Field and possibly in building a new ballpark, if it is publicly funded.

LET'S FUCKING GOO!!!!!

Okay so in a time where the White Sox are absolutely DESPERATE for good news of any kind, they drop this WHAMMER on us. Funny thing is someone tipped Chuck Naso and I off about this like a week ago and we laughed it off as too good to be true, even if this plot of land right here…

…makes PERFECT sense as the future home of the White Sox. In fact I called it years ago because I'm a fucking brainiac:

Now I'll say this - I love Sox Park (I refuse to call it any corporate name anymore since it changes so much) and truly feel it's the least of the White Sox' worries. Now that's coming from a fan perspective. I don't need anything more than what Sox Park currently offers aside from a good product on the field.

Now again, that's coming from the fan perspective. More teams seem to want to build out a Wrigleyville/Fenway/STL - like entertainment district around their ballparks. We've heard Cohen talk about it recently and if the Sox actually do pull this move off, then you bet your ass there will be bars as far as the eye can see down surrounding the stadium.

Let's boogie. But first, let's try our damndest to win some baseball games. That's not too much to ask, is it?

We'll talk a LOT more about this in the coming days and weeks on the Mid Show. Tune in below:
