It Looks Like The Eagles Are Keeping Nick Sirianni Around And Finding Someone New To Call His Plays

First things first, I wonder how many times Bill Belichick sent Howie Roseman to voicemail before this decision was made. Jeffrey Lurie must have realized there was no chance the Eagles were going to land a top coaching candidate without breaking the bank, and there’s that whole $255 million they still have to give Jalen Hurts. So giving Nick Sirianni one last chance to get this thing right was the only available option in today’s economy. Thanks, Biden.

Anyways, I think I’ve made my thoughts on Nick Sirianni pretty damn clear over the past couple weeks. He designs the offense, which was a disaster this year. He’s supposed to be a motivator and unifier in the locker room, which resulted in the team quitting on the season and the locker room being divided. He doesn’t call plays. And he gives opponents an unlimited amount of bulletin board material with his antics. Nick Sirianni was a net negative for the Eagles this year, and bringing him back is likely a mistake.

Now if you get the right (and qualified) people in here to run the offense and defense, maybe that allows him to do the things that he actually does well, well. It worked with Steichen and Gannon, so it would be ignorant to say it can’t happen again. Clearly they got it wildly wrong with Desai and Johnson. They are the easiest guys to cut out of the equation heading into next season.

But getting rid of those variables now means that Sirianni is the only one left. Either they find the right guys and Sirianni is able to avoid the majority of the blame, or the new guys don’t work out and clearly it’s a Nick issue. So Nick Sirianni gets to keep his job, but the leash has to be as short as possible. Whoever they bring in as OC or DC better be qualified to take on an interim head coach tag if shit hits the fan early.
