Lions GM Brad Holmes Is The Psycho That Detroit Sports Needs Right Now

I think it’s safe to say that Dan Campbell has probably become the poster child of this Detroit Lions Renaissance. That makes complete sense. The guy has done a great job as head coach. You see him on the sidelines every weekend. Dan Campbell is grit personified. I wouldn’t have it any other way. That said, the true poster child behind what will hopefully be the beginning of the golden age of Detroit Lions football is the man you just saw screaming in that elevator. That is Brad Holmes, the GM for the Lions, who, in a short time, has taken them from a laughing stock to a legit NFC contender. And bio accounts, he’s the right amount of psycho.

It was pretty apparent early in the season that the Detroit Lions were legit. This is a very simple way of putting things, but the reason we could tell they were for real is that you looked at the roster, and you realize they just had really good players. They had good players at every position. While not void of good teams, the Stafford era always felt incomplete. You had a great quarterback and solid receiving core, but you would have an offensive line that was Swiss cheese. You'd have an explosive offense but couldn't have a defense. There was always something that got in the way. Holmes' decision to build through the trenches has paid off. This is one of the best offensive lines in football. The first draft he ever made was getting Penei Sewell from Oregon. Sewell is a Pro Bowler in his third season and appears to be one of the best offensive linemen in football.

One thing that was pointed out about the Brad Holmes/Dan Campbell era before it even started was that regardless of whether or not they were successful, at least these guys have personalities. Bob Quinn and Patricia were such wet blankets. Nobody would've really cared had they been successful, but they were the opposite. Homes is the best kind of GM. You can tell that he's reserved when he needs to be, but after a Lions win, fuck it, we're going nuts.

Talk about a guy living his best life right now. Brad Holmes is one of the best GMs in football right now. The job that he has done in Detroit is otherworldly. This is the first time I've seen something like this. If Dan Campbell has reestablished the culture, then Brad Holmes has reestablished common sense. The final chapters of the Lions campaign are yet to be written. I hope they go all the way, but even if they don't, this is set up for the future. They have cap space, draft capital, and a rock-solid roster of players with a really good coach. For the first time in my lifetime, the Detroit Lions have a GM establishing long-term sustainability for this organization. Perhaps we are just now entering the good old days.
