The Bears Have To Clean House On The Coaching Staff

I feel like the Chicago Bears fan base is eating itself. Full scale civil war about what direction the organization should take with the draft, the QB, and the coach. I understand why people are all up in arms about the QB. I am personally going to lay down my arms on that discussion. I've twisted my own brain into a pretzel trying to think of the best way forward. I've given up.

What I don't understand are the people who want to keep Eberflus. Yes, the Bears had a 4 win improvement this year. However, I don't know how you can look at this season and feel good about the future under Eberflus. It seems as though most people want Luke Getsy to be fired. Well he was hired by Eberflus. As was the Defensive Coordinator who had to be let go. Does he really deserve another opportunity to hire a staff after completely failing the first time? I don't think so.

Now, the defense did improve after the Sweat trade and the Bears finished with 7 wins. Probably the least impressive 7 wins imaginable though.

They have four wins against teams who have already fired their head coach.

The other three wins...they beat Josh Dobbs, they beat the Arizona Cardinals who finished with the 4th worst record, and the Lions when they were really struggling.

The Bears found ways to lose games with this staff. Statistically they lost three games where they had a 90%+ chance of winning.

Sure, the defense got better, but Poles gave him a TON to work with. Drafted Stevenson, Gordon and Brisker in the secondary. Signed Edmunds and Edwards to big offseason deals. Signed Walker and Billings on the line, drafted Dexter high, traded for Montez Sweat. I refuse to believe that Eberflus is some secret genius. It's a young defense that has talent. I believe most competent coaches would have success with the talent in that group. I don't think he deserves the blame for how bad things were in 2022, but I don't think he should get credit for improvements in 2023 either.

You see this news

And you wonder how the Eberflus announcement hasn't happened yet.

Let the new guys they bring evaluate the QB with fresh eyes and go from there.
