Ron Rivera Has Been Fired After 4 Seasons
Well, there it is, the inevitable happened. There was a 0.0% chance Ron was going to keep his job after this year, but now it's official and we can all finally move out of the Dan Snyder era once and for all.
Ron was brought in to change the culture and move the team forward. He got sort of unlucky- he had to manage the name change debacle, all of the lawsuits against Dan and the team, and was diagnosed with cancer while it was all happening. Then the team was sold to Josh Harris, and Rivera was a holdover from the previous ownership, which obviously was never going to work.
But as a coach, GM, and talent evaluator, Ron was horrid. I don't want to tap dance on his NFL grave, but I do have to type the facts- he was very bad at his job. His drafting record is as abysmal as it gets, and his coaching was piss poor at best. I think Ron realized at some point that he just doesn't have what it takes to coach in today's NFL, and more or less gave up. And that's fine, right, like not everyone has the energy, the brain, the passion to be a coach in the league in 2024. Not everyone can be a Mike McDaniel. But as a result, Ron and the team were constantly unprepared, out-coached, and embarrassed. It also didn't help that Jack Del Rio was the defensive coordinator for the majority of his tenure.
So now we move on from Ron and try to find THE coach to lead us for the next decade. I'll tell you who it shouldn't be- Bill Belichick. I want a young, smart, offensive minded coach. Not a retread, not someone with old school ideas, but someone like McDaniel who can come in and change EVERYTHING about how this team operates.
Fairwell, Ron. Enjoy whatever cushy front office job you land elsewhere in the league. May you cross your arms and put your hands on your hips until the cows come home.
