The Detroit Lions Released A Video Celebrating Their NFC North Title And It’s Guaranteed To Give You Chills

Well done, well done. I guess I didn’t realize it at the time, but the Lions winning the NFC North is the first thing of consequence that any professional sports team in Detroit has won since I got hired by Barstool. It only took 2 1/2 years. I also think there’s a tremendous irony to the fact that the team that got it done is the Detroit Lions, a team that’s been the laughingstock of the NFL since before I was even born. They just posted a video celebrating their achievement, and I think it’s the best film of 2023.

I was never concerned about Dan Campbell’s leadership capabilities when he was hired. It was more so strategic stuff that I was worried about. With that said, listening to this dude speak to a football team really is inspiring. It makes my bony ass wish that I could put on a chin strap and go play for this guy. It’s a great juxtaposition compared to the last few coaches they’ve had. Matt Patricia made his players want to leave Detroit, and Jim Caldwell, who was by no means an awful coach, probably couldn’t have motivated a group of Boy Scouts across the street. Brad Holmes got the right players, and they bought into what Dan Campbell was selling.

Before yesterday, I wasn’t exactly sure how the Lions would play the next two games. Until recently, it seemed like they had the three seed comfortably locked up. But right now, they have a legitimate chance to wrap up the second seed or potentially even the top seat in the NFC if they play their cards right. Next week will obviously be very telling. They go to Dallas to play the Cowboys. What happens in that game will likely determine if they go about resting their starters for the final game of the season against the Vikings at home. But usually, at this point in the season, the Lions get a meaningless win to hurt their draft status because they beat a team that is resting their starters. The fact that we’re even discussing the idea of a seed feels like a fever dream.

This is a minor thing, but I like it when social media teams do stuff like this instead of posting cute little memes when their team is losing. I know I’m a curmudgeon, but that shit annoys me. I might have to write a blog about this some point, but the Detroit Pistons have actually resorted to cropping out the score of the games when they post highlights because the team is so shitty. That seems like something the Lions would’ve had to do in the past. But the past is becoming a more distant memory every day. For now, Detroit owns the north.
