Reports Are That The Bears Brass Still Haven't Made Up Their Minds About Eberflus And Fields

Look, I can't make up my mind about Justin Fields either. I change my opinion not every week, but almost every day. I can't decide if Fields stinks or if he's the victim of terrible coaching and could actually be effective with the right plan.

No matter where you fall on the Fields question (I am in a 'Jesus take the wheel' mode at the moment), I can't see any argument for keeping Eberflus. His record should speak for itself. I don't even really hold the 2022 season against him. That was a tear down season. This year though…unmitigated disaster. The NFC North was there for the taking and the coaching staff squandered it. They had to fire two guys for HR reasons, which isn't a great start when you're trying to build a culture, and his offensive coordinator hire can't wrap his head around the idea that his QB doesn't have the same skill set as Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.

The Bears coaching staff has cost the Bears three wins minimum this year (Broncos, Lions, Browns). That's the difference in the season. The difference between playoffs and tanking. It should be the difference between losing your job and keeping it too. The Bears could be sitting here 8-6 right now with Arizona, Atlanta, and Green Bay remaining on the schedule. That'd be a GREAT spot. Couldn't ask for much more than that. As it is, the season is over. The only thing the coaching staff can do now is fuck up the draft position.

Outside of Harbaugh I don't have any opinion on a way forward, but I know this current group hasn't done enough. Time to move on and move them out.
