Power Ranking The 5 Most Embarrassing Banners In Sports

So the internet has been up in arms over the Lakers putting their inaugural In-Season Tournament Champions banner up in the rafters, directly next to they Championship Banners. My two cents is that if it were up the Lakers, they wouldn't have done it. No way, right? But Adam Silver has to be on his hands and knees begging them to act like it's a big deal, so they obliged. But regardless of if that conspiracy is in fact a fact, it is still a ridiculously embarrassing visual nonetheless. But is it the most embarrassing in all of sports?

Let's EMBRACE DEBATE with my list of the Top 5:

#5. The New Orleans Saints Selling Out Their Season Ticket Allotment

Ummm, cool? I just find it funny that the Broncos have sold out every game since like 1970, which is more than 400 straight home games, and the Saints tossed up a banner for…..one season.

#4. The Rays Putting Up A Wild Card Banner

Putting up a Wild Card banner in itself is silly, but it's exponentially more silly when you realize the result of their Wild Card Series. They scored 1 run in 24 innings. They were in the expansion round of the playoffs for less time than it takes to get a cup of coffee. And they raised a banner.

#3. The Colts MAKING An AFC Championship Game In 2014

Am I wrong or does the term "Championship Banner" mean you actually need to win a championship…..? Hang the division one if you want. Hang the Conference one if you wish. But in no way can you hang a banner for simply making a game.

#2. The Lakers Winning The In-Season Tournament

I don't think this recency bias whatsoever. The Lakers have won 17 World Championships, and they now stand beside a gimmick in-season tournament banner? LeBron James cannot be proud of this. Then again, Michael never won one….

#1. The Washington Mystics Leading The WNBA In Attendance In 2002

I find this to be laugh out loud funny. But I didn't want to use the low hanging fruit and poke at the WNBA, so I was going to put them in the middle of the list…until I found out they went BACK TO BACK!!!!

Is that a dynasty?

Honorable Mention:  The Heat Retiring Both Dan Marino and Michael Jordan's Jersey From…..The Heat

Well, I think it's safe to say that no one will EVER wear a #13 Dolphins jersey while playing for the Heat for as long as the franchise exists.
