Zach Wilson's Mom Reveals That Her Son Suffered Crippling Concussion Issues Sunday But Didn't Tell Anyone and Stayed in the Game

By now anyone who knows me is well aware of my opinion on the New York Jets. I've spent the better part of my adult life making it clear how little respect I have for that soiled adult diaper of an organization and its endless series of failed franchise saviors. But at the same time, I will take a back seat to no man when it comes to my respect and admiration for Zach Wilson's mom, Lisa.

It was obviously tough weekend in another excruciatingly tough season in a tough career for this mother/influencer/philanthropist/force of nature. Her son started for the Jets at Miami, but only lasted 22 snaps before coming out of the game with an injury. While he was in, he took all of 15 dropbacks and was sacked on four of them. When he did manage get the ball out of his hand, he completed just four passes for only 26 yards.

Out of 32 NFL starting quarterback moms, probably 31 would just accept such a game as another lousy day at the office in her son's very difficult job, stayed in the background and let her boy sort his stuff out. Lisa Wilson, bless her, is the lone exception.

Source - The mother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson claims her son tried to stay in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins before entering the concussion protocol, saying he didn't initially tell coaches he was experiencing vision problems during his dreadful four-sack day in Miami.

'Yesterday was a little bit rough, Zach took some really, really big hits and he fought through it and really tried to just stay out on the field,' Lisa Wilson, a 50-year-old Instagram influencer, said in a video posted on the social network. 'He didn't want to go out, he didn't want to stop playing — so he didn't tell the sideline, the coaches, the trainers how he was really feeling and tried to just fight through it and be out there for his guys.'

Lisa's depiction of her son as a tough player fighting to remain on the field for his teammates comes in contrast to one recent report about Zach, who allegedly was reluctant to resume starting duties for the Jets earlier this month, according to The Athletic. ...

'Finally, after one more blow to the head, he really started having problems with blurred vision and his depth perception,' Lisa Wilson said. 'He really started worrying that he was actually going to hurt his team if he stayed out there because his vision was not right and how you can't play like that.'

First of all, Lisa Wilson is 50? That certainly tracks with having a 24 year old son, but it's still hard to believe. Because she looks like she's 40. But she talks like a mother from days gone by. Even ancient times. Honoring her son's courage and self-sacrifice like she's Olympia, the mother of Alexander the Great. We live in an age where you can't spell "smother" without "mother." Where everyone is a Helicopter Mom, hovering over her precious boy at all times, keeping him under constant surveillance and protecting him from the slings and arrows of every day life at all costs. Where they'd choose their child's safety over the obvious harmful effects of raising a pussy who can't take care of himself.

That's not my girl Lisa. All she wants the world to know is that her son was on what boxers in a different age used to call Queer Street. But he kept taking the ball at the risk to his own mental health. Was it reckless of him? I suppose. Would he and his team had been better off if he'd simply gone to the training staff and told them he was having severe neurological issues? It's hard to argue otherwise. But was it ballsy of him? Most definitely. You have to respect both Wilson and Mrs. Wilson for fighting back against the narrative that he's been reluctant to back onto the field. Though in retrospect, it certainly seems like he was right to be gun shy, because the Jets pass protection is non-existent.

But this is not about the Jets O-line problems. This is a story about a mother's love and devotion. And, by extension, about how much trouble her comments are going to cause to everyone whose job it is to identify concussions during the game. The Jets medical team. Their coaches. The NFL's Unaffiliated Neurotrama Consultant. The officials. All these protocols that were put in place to allegedly keep guys with blurred vision and no depth perception off the field experienced system failure. All the people being paid to make the public relations nightmare of the Will Smith Concussion movie go away stood on the sidelines with their thumbs up their asses while a young player risks his future to prove how tough he is. And now, thanks to Lisa, the league should have yet another PR nightmare on their hands.

I hope everyone of you who reads these posts and supports Barstool has a mother like Lisa Wilson. If she's ever interested in adopting another son who's actually older than she is, I'm available. I love this woman.
