Colby Covington Does A Whole Lotta Nothing, Leon Edwards Easily Retains His Welterweight Championship In UFC 296 Main Event

After all of that talk from Colby Covington, which got as nasty as saying he'd take Leon Edwards down to the seventh layer of hell to see his father (who was murdered when Leon was 13) and then doubling down on that....

....it was a whole lotta nothing from him in the octagon in the UFC 296 main event this evening. I don't know if it was the ring rust, if he came into this fight injured, or if he's just getting old or something, but he looked oddly slow and not like himself at all tonight. Colby's usual pressure/volume just wasn't there at all.

For five straight rounds, Leon Edwards simply picked Colby Covington apart on the feet, chewing his lead leg up and punishing his body with kicks. He even took him down a couple times (and, to be fair, got taken down himself in some of those exchanges) just to prove he was the better athlete....

Colby clearly cared way more about shouting out Trump after the fight than the fight itself, and was DELULU afterwards claiming he won the fight and didn't have a scratch on him - while bleeding all over the camera, with THIS THING on his leg….

Colby won the fifth round and ended the fight on top, so he'll hang onto that forever I'm sure. Plus, he got this moment, I guess….

….and we got it from an alternate angle in HD thanks to Jack from Bussin with the Boys, who was sitting close enough to Trump all night that he definitely got background checked by the Secret Service at some point.

I don't know who is next for Leon from here between Belal Muhammed and Shavkat Rakhmonov, because neither of those fights are necessarily SUPERFIGHTS or PPV draws like this one - but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I'm about to go LIVE with Big Ev and JackMac to discuss these fights, so tune in if you're up late and looking for extra UFC 296 content!
