St. Louis Blues Fans Boo'd Their Own Player So Bad Last Night They Had Him In Tears
Jordan Kyrou is just a good ol' boy from Ontario. A 2nd round pick in the 2016 Draft for St. Louis, and a kid who has managed to put up back-to-back 70+ point seasons in the past 2 years. Now much like the rest of the Blues roster, you could say Jordan Kyrou is probably underachieving a little this season. And with the whole team underachieving, the organization decided to shake things up and fire head coach Craig Berube--the only coach in Blues history to win a Stanley Cup.
So before last night's game against Ottawa, reporters went around asking guys how they felt about Berube being let go. And here's what Jordan Kyrou had to say, or not say, about it.
Alright so admittedly, that's a pretty cold response. But a few things on that…
For starters, nobody knows what the relationship between Jordan Kyrou and Craig Berube was like aside from Jordan Kyrou and Craig Berube. Maybe it was fine, maybe it was absolute dog shit. Either way, you don't know unless you're actually in the locker room. And even if it was a fine relationship, you also have a player who is probably frustrated with his team being on a 4-game losing streak, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and he personally hadn't put up a point in 5 of his last 6 games. It for sure wasn't the greatest response, but the guy was just answering a question.
How did the good, wholesome, midwest nice people of St. Louis handle that response?
By booing the guy every time he touched the puck on his home ice. 73 points last season. 75 points the year before. And here you have a fanbase booing the shit out of him just because he said no comment about a fired coach.

And here's the thing--I know some of you idiots out there with mashed potatoes for brains and going to think this is the pot calling the kettle black for a Philly guy to complain about fans booing their own players. But the difference here is that for the most part, Philly fans boo the entire team when they know those idiots can be playing better. We boo our players because we want more out of them, we know they're capable of greatness, but they're just not putting it all together. And on the rare occasions it is targeted at a single player, it's always based on performance. But here you have fans in St. Louis specifically going after one guy and booing him to the point where he's in tears, all because he didn't give some grand soliloquy of praise to a coach that was just fired.
Keep in mind the team was winning the entire night. That's pretty fucked, if you ask me.
Booing a guy because he's not performing up to his potential is at least separating the player from the human. If he turned the puck over in the neutral zone 5 times in a row and then the fans started to boo? That's just natural. But booing the guy every time he touched the puck just because he didn't gargle down a fired coach during a pre-game interview is going after Jordan Kyrou as a person. You can't fault a guy for getting emotionally crushed when you have a whole arena hating who you are as a person. Great work, St. Louis. Mission accomplished.
