Working On The Golf Swing Together Is The Ultimate Form Of Male Bonding

Not to brag or anything, but I feel like I have a decent amount of friends. Some guys I've known my whole life, some guys I've known for 10+ years, some guys I've only known for a few years. Now the great thing about male friendship is that there's never really a need to get too deep into personal lives. The fellas are always just about having a great time, and you don't need to drag down the whole group by talking about how your day is actually going. You just make a bunch of jokes, talk about whatever game it is that everybody is watching, drink some booze, and try to figure out a time to get all the boys together again before realizing that it's impossible to schedule anything once most of the group has kids. Rinse & repeat. It's the perfect level of interaction, and you guys will be friends for life.

There's not a ton of vulnerability in male friendship. You don't open up about your feelings. You don't typically open yourself up that way. But if there's one time to show the most vulnerability and be as open as possible with the boys...it's when you're trying to dial in the golf swing.

It's that moment right there when you can discuss the things which you fear the most. You're scared about coming across the ball a little too fast and hooking the shit out of it. You're worried about your club face being too open at contact and slicing your tee shot three fairways over. You're concerned your backswing is too steep, your hips aren't clearing, and you're pulling up on the ball instead of hitting down. The fellas all try to give you as much advice as they possibly can because they want you to succeed. It's supportive, it's brotherhood. And that's what these dudes working at the airport have found in one another.

The moment you open yourself up and work on the golf swing with another dude, you guys are bonded for life. Because now your success and their success are forever intertwined. If you finally figure out the swing and put together a few rounds, you rush to let them know about it. If you're still struggling to find any semblance of consistency out there, the shame and guilt weighs down double upon you because you know you're letting them down as well. You might not know a single damn thing about each other's personal lives, but you know every single sequence of their swing path. And I think that's beautiful.
